Art with Young Children

This course is designed to show educators how to use art as a language. By looking at the art space with a critical eye and seeing the potential of a variety of materials, educators will begin to examine their own barriers of creativity. We will be exploring everyday materials in unconventional ways, to refresh our creativity. By getting back to the creative process participants will be able to see past the final product and gain insight into what children are thinking and saying with their art. This course will also explore the art studio and how to go about setting one up, that works for you!

Topics are based on portfolio requirements for NSCAD University and other national art schools and will include: writing an admissions essay, documenting artwork, and evaluating portfolio content. Studio exercises are process driven, experimental and will help to strengthen problem-solving and observational skills.
