Discover the world of art making through exploration and experimentation with a variety of materials and organized activities. Basic skills in drawing, painting, and sculpture will be considered. Students will become familiar with concepts, skills and materials that are basic to painting, and will learn how drawing can play an important role in painting. Drawing and painting techniques, colour mixing, painting application, composition, colour values, and contrasts will be considered. This course touches on why demonstrated ability to draw and paint from observation is a critical part of visual portfolio when applying to art colleges. Class limit is 15.

Saturday Ceramics (ages 10-12)

In this course students will learn different clay techniques such as: pinching, coiling, slab building, carving, texturing and throwing on the potter's wheel. Students will use these skills to create many different items; there are no limitations to what they can make or create. The class will focus on functional objects as well as sculptural art pieces, and will provide an exciting experience of the fundamentals and nature of clay. Everyone will have many pieces to take home and be proud of for years to come.

From movies, video games, and books strange creatures have appeared in multitude of areas. Scary, sad, or funny these monsters and creatures play an integral part in the appeal of these varied media. Drawing on inspiration from the natural world, this course will teach you how to design your own monsters and creatures and using the fundamentals of drawing.

Comics and Zines For Teens

Students will explore individual and collaborative comic-making and learn photocopy processes that will enable them to create simple but effective zine publications. Cartooning (graphic novels, manga, etc.) will be emphasized through improvised comic jam, a fun and challenging process where the entire class draws one comic simultaneously. Using common and inexpensive materials, such as printer paper, pens, and even dental floss, students will learn simple photocopying and binding techniques through creating two additional comic zines.
